*   KWV has been named the Best Brandy and Cognac Producers in the World in the 2015 International Spirits Challenge held in London yesterday. It is the first time in the 20-year history of the Challenge that a brandy has outperformed a cognac.  The 20 year-old KWV brandy was also named Best Brandy in the World, and Grand Champion. More than 1000 entries were received from more than 70 countries, and were evaluated by more than 50 judges over the period of a week. (received via media release from Tin Can PR)

*  Fleur du Cap representative Chef Craig Cormack has returned from a successful series of salt and wine pairings he hosted at lunches and dinners at restaurants in the Netherlands and Sweden.  A new gift pack of Fleur du Cap Salt Collection can be purchased for R30. *  Gastropubs are becoming the preferred venues to have drinks in the UK, as Britons acquire a taste for high-end wines. One wine supplier has seen an increase in sales of 52% in the £20 a bottle category, Sauvignon Blanc being particularly popular. Gastropubs meet the need to drink fewer better quality wines in ‘boutique surroundings’, writes The Drinks Business.

*  Eskom Acting CE Brian Molefe has announced that his company will apply to the new BRICS Development Bank for a loan to construct power stations, due to not being granted the 20+% electricity price increase it applied for recently, reports Business Day.
